Sean Sterna
Sean Sterna is the Rocky Mountain Arborist!
Born in Calgary and growing up in the Rocky Mountains, Sean received his Bachelor’s Degree in Earth Sciences from the University of Calgary. Starting his journey with a chainsaw in the forestry industry, Sean came into the world of residential arboriculture under the mentorship of a 2nd generation ISA certified arborist in 2014 and has been committed to building his skills ever since. He is dedicated to the mantra of safety and control, constantly seeking innovative ways to make the industry safer and has a passion for sharing those techniques with others.
Sean began working with ropes professionally in 2007, when he became a member of the Canadian Ski Patrol. From then on, he has continually pursued training and improvement in technical rigging and rope rescue skills, becoming an IRATA L1 Rope Access Technician and Rescue 3 International Rope Rescue Technician.
Outside of his work as an arborist, Sean serves as a Fire Captain for a local volunteer department where he has served for over 10 years. He is accredited with numerous firefighting, rescue and instructor certifications, and is responsible for in-service training, mentoring the department’s members on safe fire ground operations, and various rescue techniques.
